Latest Updates from Our Project:

Uncle Al's Unlocked, Boat Wars Stretch Goal Revealed!
about 5 years ago – Sun, Feb 24, 2019 at 11:57:36 PM

The 500 backer goal at the $200 reward level has been destroyed, adding the 2038 Uncle Albert's Catalog to the campaign, both as a $10 add-on item and to the $200 reward level (as a bonus!). That means a bunch of weapons and accessories are ready for your Car Wars games and, more importantly, that we can reveal the next stretch goal.

If we reach 600 backers at the $200 reward level before the project closes on Friday, the Boat Wars Pocket Box will be added to the campaign. This is the last of the Pocket Box games and expansions of the eighties, meaning that there's a chance you will be able to replace every single Steve Jackson Games Pocket Box title that you may have owned (or missed out on!) three decades ago. Add in the storage box stickers and empty Pocket Boxes and you'll have more hard plastic cases than ever!

Boat Wars!!!
Boat Wars!!!

And even though the Boat Wars stretch goal is the big reveal, let's not forget that we still have the $160,000 stretch goal -- GURPS Autoduel -- now less than $2,500 away! All we need are more project backers; let's beat the forum and blog bushes in these final days and direct as many new backers as possible to the campaign. The more new supporters we get, the better the project becomes!

$150,000 Stretch Goal Unlocked, Melee & Wizard Add-On, and FnordCon!
about 5 years ago – Sat, Feb 23, 2019 at 10:08:19 PM

The $150,000 stretch goal has been unlocked and we're now including an alternate cover sticked for Crash City inside the box! Additionally, backers at the $200 reward level are also going to receive The Best of Autoduel Quarterly, Volume 1, at no extra charge! That $200 reward level is now officially the best deal in gaming ever* and is not to be missed!

Unlocking the $150,000 stretch goal also revealed a new goal: Die-cut counters in Car Wars Expansion Set 4 and 5 if we pass the $175,000 mark! That now puts the unlocked stretch goals at:

  • $160,000 - GURPS Autoduel!
  • $170,000 - Checklist stickers.
  • $175,000 - Die-cut counters in Car Wars Expansion 4 and 5.
  • 500 $200 Reward Level Backers - Uncle Al's 2038 Catalog.
  • 1,450 Project Backers - Two new Ogre storage box stickers!

With so many alternate stickers and storage box stickers available, we really should create a new add-on for an empty Pocket Box ten-pack, right? Who would be interested in a bargain on empty Pocket Boxes? Let us know in the comments!

Melee & Wizard

We've had requests that the Melee & Wizard Pocket Box be added to this project. While we cannot make it one of the games available to select as a reward, we can make the game a $25 add-on . . . and so we have! If you would like to include this new Pocket Box in your rewards, please add $25 to your pledge; as always, you'll let us know in BackerKit which add-ons you want.

FnordCon

If you're near Austin the first weekend in April, please consider joining us for FnordCon where we'll be playing a lot of games, both already-published and not-yet-published. While we're unlikely to have any tooling samples for the Pocket Box games in time for the event, we will have plenty of other prototypes and previews and we're looking forward to seeing as many of you as can make it. We've got the games and the space, come play with us!

We now have less than a week to go before this campaign comes to a close, so now is the time to get out there into the wild and boost awareness of the project at all of the blogs, forums, and Facebook groups you're a member of. We still have stretch goals left to reveal, and we're hoping that -- with your support -- we can bring enough enough new backers to unlock several more treats before March 1st. Let's do this, gang, and make the Pocket Box return an event that we'll never forget!

* May not be the best deal in gaming ever, but it is a remarkable bargain.

$145,000 stretch goal unlocked, new stretch goals revealed, and Boat Wars update!
about 5 years ago – Fri, Feb 22, 2019 at 01:08:05 AM

We now have die-cut counters in Car Wars Expansion Set 1, 2, and 3! Fantastic work, team!!! You continue to unlock those stretch goals at a rate faster than we expected, so it's time that we get out ahead of  you and give you some real stretches!

  • $150,000 - Sunday Drivers cover sticker packed inside the Crash City game as well as the Best of Autoduel Quarterly, Volume 1 in print. The sticker, if this stretch goal is unlocked, may be applied to any empty Pocket Box . . . or directly over the Crash City cover sticker. Your call!
  • $160,000 - If met, we'll open the first edition of GURPS Autoduel as an add-on and pack it at no extra charge in the $200 reward level. This book provides a great look at the Car Wars world of the eighties and is a fun read for every Car Wars player.
  • $170,000 - We took your feedback on the checklist sticker and Gabby has two designs: One for Car Wars and one for Ogre! If unlocked, every storage box sticker included in this campaign will also come with the appropriate checklist sticker.
As requested, one checklist sticker for Car Wars and one for Ogre!

In addition to the financial goals, we also have a few backer goals for you.

  • 500 $200 Backers - If we reach 500 backers at the $200 reward level, we will include the 2038 Uncle Al's Catalog at no extra charge in that $200 level. The book will, of course, also be available as an add-on item.
  • 1,450 Project Backers - At the moment, we have 1,261 backers. If we reach 1,450 backers before this campaign comes to a close, then we will unlock two new Ogre storage box stickers; one will be included in Shockwave and one will be included in the Ogre Reinforcement Pack. Add empty Pocket Boxes to take advantage of these labels!

Boat Wars Update

Darryll and the team placed their hands on a sealed copy of Boat Wars, so the first step in bringing it back is out of the way. We've not yet settled on a plan, but we are looking at the math and figuring out how to bring Boat Wars into the project; news to come!

As always, please be sure to share this campaign with all of your friends! And with the new 1,450 backers stretch goal, we need new supporters more than ever! Let's unlock that before the campaign comes to a close.

Storage Box and Slip Case Thoughts
about 5 years ago – Wed, Feb 20, 2019 at 12:58:08 AM

Greetings from the final day of New York Toy Fair! The Deadly Doodles game has had a great response from retailers, The Fantasy Trip has left many amazed by the amount of stuff packed into the box, and our new Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 set is going to be our hottest game of the spring . . . in short, this has been a remarkable trip!

And making things even better, over 1,200 of you have unlocked over twenty classic Steve Jackson Games titles from the eighties, bringing back games and expansions that many of us never expected to see in print again. Thank you!

We're closing in on the $140,000 stretch goal, and the next $200 # of backers stretch goal isn't far behind, so we wanted to touch base on some behind-the-scenes activity.

Pocket Box Expansion Checklist

We heard your requests for a printed label that you can apply to empty boxes to mark off what's inside, and Gabby assembled one possible approach to the idea. This particular example is a shared checklist -- Ogre and Car Wars -- and if we were to make this, it would be packed inside select Pocket Box games. You would then need an empty Pocket Box to take advantage of the label. Is one for both games what you're looking for, or would you like to see a label for each line? Let us know!

None of these stickers are available at this time, but they are all under consideration and may become a part of this campaign.

Pocket Box Slip Case

Last night's dinner was with David, Jason, and Mike of GPI, our printing partners, and parts of the discussion revolved around another backer request: A slip case to store/display the Pocket Box games created as a part of this campaign. Not surprisingly, a cardboard slip case to hold multiple games is possible (a little pricey), but we think we could do better than just one slip case.

Our current thinking, which is being discussed and needs some factory time, would be to create an Ogre slip case -- that would hold Ogre, G.E.V., Battlesuit, and two empty Pocket Boxes (one for each unlocked storage label) -- a Car Wars slip case that holds all available Pocket Boxes (including those with the storage labels applied), an Illuminati slip case (you get the idea), and then the "other" games slip case.

We're not yet ready to officially add the slip case idea to this campaign -- we have to do some math and continue chatting with the factory -- but we wanted you to know what we're currently exploring as a Pocket Box storage and display option.

With the project coming to a close next week, there's not a lot of time for us to nail down solutions for the slip case idea. Your suggestion of a slip case is excellent, though, so we're going to do all we can to try and fit the slip case(s) into the Pocket Box stretch goal list before March 1.

Thanks for the suggestions and requests, gang! We can't execute on every idea that you toss our way, but we promise to consider each suggestion and, where possible, fit them into the project.

$140,000 Stretch Goal Unlocked, Pocket Box Colors, and . . . Boat Wars?
about 5 years ago – Wed, Feb 20, 2019 at 12:32:05 AM

You're killing those stretch goals!!! As I mentioned before leaving for New York Toy Fair last week, there isn't a lot of time while I'm here at the show for keeping up with this campaign, so we revealed a couple of extra stretch goals . . . and you're knocking those down faster than we expected! With $140,000 behind us, we took time to prepare the $150,000 stretch goal while we're also still looking to unlock the next Car Wars reward level goal and the $145,000 stretch goal (our first wave of die-cut counters for Car Wars expansions!).

At $150,000, we'll unlock something many of you have asked for: Sunday Drivers! If the stretch goal is met, we'll pack an alternate label in the Crash City box, giving you the tool to transform your Crash City Pocket Box into Sunday Drivers. And if that stretch goal is met, we'll also pack a replica of The Best of Autoduel Quarterly, Volume 1 into the $200 reward level at no extra charge!

Pocket Box Colors

We know that Awful Green Things will be packed inside a green box, and that has us asking: Would you be interested in seeing other games in boxes other than black? Necromancer, for example, would look incredible in a purple box. Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts on plastic colors! Do we stick with black, or do we change things up?

Boat Wars?

Many of you have asked that we include Boat Wars as a part of this campaign. (Speaking of plastic colors, a blueBoat Wars Pocket Box would be sweet.) All we can say is: We're exploring our options here. The challenge is that we need a near-perfect copy for the factory to work from; Darryll and the team are looking around in the archives.

More Supporters!

We need to drive awareness of the project and bring in more backers so that we can keep unlocking those stretch goals and packing the project. If you have a friend who has never played Car Wars, Undead, Necromancer, or Kung Fu 2100, today is the day to tell them all about this project and why they may want to join in and pledge for a game or two. Every new backer helps push us closer and closer to unlocking more stretch goals!
